Posted about Saint Motel a couple of times already – so this should not come as a surprise. On record, they sound like one of those bands that could potentially end up having wayyy too many people on stage. Saw a band at SXSW this year who actually had 11 people on stage – including 2 drum sets (!?) and 3 bass players: NO, just NO. Just start a second band.
Anyway, the Los Angeles vagabonds of Saint Motel are releasing their debut album Voyeur today – and it is both RAD and NEW (hence this category). Following their witty singles 1997 and Benny Goodman, the entire album is stuffed with fantastic folk’ish (not too much – just right) indie pop songs. But it’s not just the music. If you listen to the lyrics closely, you might find yourself laughing in tears or just being all what the hell, how did you even come up with that?!
See 1997 and Benny Goodman for instance, or Honest Feedback below: “Of all the illegal ways to end someone’s life, there’s one just as sharp and it’s sharp as a knife.” – I mean, this is gold. And at the same time Voyeur is that kind of music that brightens up your day and if you turn the volume up, chances are you’ll find yourself jumping up and down around the house – possibly in need to explain yourself. Voyeur is great fun from start to finish – on repeat here.
