Eirik Djuvsland – Bottom Of The Sea
Eirik Djuvsland – Space Cruise Delux
Eirik Djuvsland is one half of the popular electro rock group We Are Mystery. But since his bandmate Charlie Ytterli moved away, recording was cut down to a minimum. They plan to venture into a more lo-fi electro sound soon though – something to keep an eye on. Eirik meanwhile pursued his solo career and released a more dance-compatible EP The Problem on his SoundCloud page. The above Bottom Of The Sea and Space Cruise Delux are taken off his brand new record The Wait Is Life – out soon.
Interviewed Eirik the other day, get to know the guy behind the tunes:
Where are you from?
A small town in Norway called Drøbak.
What does your “studio” look like?
I got a little setup consisting of a Mac, a couple of synths, a guitar and Charlie’s bass.
What inspires you?
I get inspired by a lot of stuff: pictures, movies, friends and of course other music. All kinds, like jazz, funk, afrobeat, dub, electronica, rock, hip-hop and so on..
What would be the ideal environment to listen to your music?
Maybe while traveling by car, bus or train. As a soundtrack to your own thoughts. Hopefully adding a little extra to the usually lame travel-routine to work or school
What feeling do you want to carry to the listener?
Realness. Not trying to be straight gangsta or anything, but I feel that my few listeners understand that I make music because I love doing it, and not because it hopefully gets me paid, you know.
What’s your most beloved record?
“Dystopia” by Midnight Juggernauts. I love their stuff.
What’s the view from your kitchen window?
The average age in my neighborhood is 80+
What’s your favorite food?
I have to say a perfectly done, big hamburger. Nothing beats a really good burger.
What’s your favorite PlayStation game?
Call of Duty.
What’s your favorite pair of shoes?
Sneakers. The term sneakers actually came from the fact that the rubber sole allowed people sneaking around silently (wikipedia). More specific, Keds. I like to keep my shoes classic & clean, with sneaking abilities.
Hah! That’s amazing! Thanks for taking the time, Eirik!
